Remote Engineering Systems Ltd ( RESL)

Kevin Hunt

Kevin Hunt is the Managing Director of his own company – Remote Engineering Systems Limited and trades as a consultant designing Nuclear Remote Handling and Process Equipment with a strong bias towards hydraulics. He takes on short and medium term contracts to assist larger companies with bid preparation including documentation, technical specifications and can also work as a lead design engineer who provides services from concept to detailed design.

Kevin started his career as an apprentice and has worked as an engineer in various capacities in Japan, Switzerland and Germany in a long and interesting career.

His level of experience in the underwater engineering industry is comparable with that in the nuclear field and he finds that technology transfer is often a possibility. Kevin has been able to carry this knowledge and apply it to a number of high risk projects where remote handling is essential.

RESL Projects include
Berkeley AWVR – Design and Project Leader on two options that used a very long reach, mast-based manipulator for the Berkeley Waste Vaults.

Sellafield – the decommissioning the Upper Section of the Windscale B6 Pile Chimney; this was the first robotic decommissioning task to be performed at the Sellafield site.

Development of a Contaminated Soil Removal System – A machine was developed that demonstrated that contaminated soil could be frozen and transported under vacuum into a shielded or sealed container

Development of Remote Pipeline Repair Systems – Kevin designed and built a suite of equipment that demonstrated the feasibility of pipeline repair in the Norwegian Trench.

Kevin’s other claim to fame was as an ‘Expert’ on Remote Handling on Channel 4’s
Scrapheap Challenge

Remote Engineering Systems Ltd was referred to EIN-SW by Mike Lewis from the Fredericks Foundation Whilst attending the Lackham EINSW launch event back in July, Kevin was introduced to Ross Nichols (Business Mentoring Services). Kevin’s requirements were for a strategic business report to identify various commercial routes which could take his ACE project to market were fulfilled by Ross as part of the assistance provided by EIN-SW

EIN-SW has completed their assist for Remote Engineering Systems Ltd, but continues to work with Kevin using the EIN-SW network to source an investor and move the project forward.
